About Me

Since my youth, bikes have taken me to places that I wouldn't have otherwise reached. When I was young, I rode my bike to school nearly every single day, on a route that was further than all of my friends. I didn't ride much in high school because that just wasn't something that anyone did and I was focused on basketball and baseball. In college, I rode to class almost every day and started to see more serious cyclists. The jersey I would most often see was XXX Racing. Thanks to Lance's success, I became aware of the competitive side of cycling. I watched every race that I could find on TV. The racing itch was real and I signed on with the team in early 2009, shortly after I bought my first road bike.

My first team ride was an eye opener. It was mid/late February and the extremely cold weather had just broken. The snow was melting and the hearty folks on the team showed up for a winter ride. I knew nothing about group riding or proper cycling clothing. Naturally, I arrived at Wicker Park wearing jeans and a wool sweater. I brought my messenger bag and ulock, just in case we needed to stop somewhere and lock up. I felt like a fool when I saw the normal cold weather cycling clothes that everyone else had. That didn't stop the group from welcoming me and I did the ride to Highland Park and back without any problem hanging on to the pace. Up is the only way to go when the starting point is that low.

Over the course of a few seasons, I accomplished quite a bit on the bike and made it to cat 2 on the road and got engaged along the way. The bike and the team continue to take me places where I wouldn't be otherwise. There is so much to know about racing, training, the proper way to wear sunglasses, and the nuances of taking a correct photograph of a bike. This team has all of those answers, opportunities, and more. XXX Racing is my home. Nobody does it better.
