I love racing on a weekday! Nothing better than doing what I really love while the rest of the world is hard at work. Dispite that it was no vacation. This was my first solo race which was a little unusual and a bit uncomfortable. So far this season I have always had a fellow xXx'er by my side. I definatly took it for granted.
The pace was fast, and I tried to play it conservative. I had marked Joel Friedman and Scott Kineopee of bicycle heaven, because they both have been racing well and moving up fast.
The start finish was situated along a sinuous stretch of road through a park. It entered a parking lot and out on to a long straight-away. Turn 3 was wide and easy, but turn 4 was a trick, as it was tight and it passed over a concrete threshold wich seperated the street from the parking lot. Everyone was breaking through this turn throughout the race. After entering the parking lot you connected back up to the down hill meandering stretch to the finish.
There were attacks all day but nothing stuck. On the final lap about 50 meters before turn 3, Joel and another guy jumped. I followed. We stretched it out and had the room to go into the tricky turn 4 fast with a nice safe line. That was all we needed, because most of the field was two and three wide and had to slow down going into that turn. I kept digging to the finish and ended in fourth.
