I stood above Dave Moyer on a track podium.
Anyone who's been to the Northbrook Velodrome this year and opened his eyes understands what an honor that is. This guy who's all business when it comes to the velodrome, "no joke" as Newt would say, qualified for nationals twice- or maybe thrice-over (he won the state points race, came within a half-second of winning the state pursuit title, and picked up a bronze medal with Randy in the state Madison championship), who won the Allvoi Cup 3-4-5 Overall and went from a 5 to a 2 on the road faster than a three year old can use her fingers to subtract one of those numbers from the other. The guy who, if he actually posted all his track results on the site, would singlehandedly bring our team Top 5s to 8 trillion. And I stood above him on a track podium. I could go on and on about what a distinct honor and privilege -- and complete surprise -- this was; I could tell you how promising it is for my track season next year; I could tell you how close our team pursuit came to winning the day and how honored and humbled I was to have been given a chance to ride my first one (ever!) with someone as seasoned as Randy, but I won't. Instead I'll just smile, let this sink in a little bit. Might not happen again for a while. I stood above Dave Moyer on a track podium.
