Tour de Champaign
2 crits in two days
Great events and good people
Refreshingly Egoless, nice and efficient staff, That created a positive vibe and good times
Saturdays Race
Downtown Crit
Fast and Technical 1k
My kinda Crit with tight challenging lines
A break got away in the first five minutes
they had 8 or 9 total team mates blocking and
I was resigned to play the Field sprint game
Fast forward to 3 to go
Menacing Pace and insane surges until the Bell Lap, I managed to move up into 4th wheel and stayed there into the last corner, I jumped Hard, but only came around two and managed 2nd in the Sprint for 5th overall
after...I got a free massage by the registration area listening to Live Band perform a country version of Ace of Spades by Motorhead..BONUS !!
Sundays Race
South Campus Crit
Long drag race 4 corner action with challenging false flats and smooth pavement.
This Race was Fassssssst..65 minutes of tunnel vision
Attack, Attack, Attack, Counter, Counter
The Wild Animal from Proctor Racing who stayed away solo in Peoria several weeks previous managed to get off the front with an 18 year old Beast named Hogan.
Since the same two went 1,2 on Saturday I was watching them closely
I personally chased down 4 of there attacks and was deep in the Pain Cave with the door shut when Hogan finally got off and bridged to The Proctor rider. Not a damn Soul chased, I watched it go and said to myself in my best Randy Voice "That was the move"
Fast forward...3 to go, the Race got incredibly hostile, It was like a swarm of angry Hornets trying to fit thru a small hole at the same time
I had to stay Sharp and hold position between 3rd and 10th wheel, if I didn't....back to 30th wheel in a NY second
Bell Lap, second to last corner, Carnage behind me, I could here Carbon Fiber and swearing..and in front of me all hell is breaking loose
I line up the final corner sitting about 8th wheel, a bit deep in line, but its a false flat up and 275 to the line, I carve the corner just right carrying all my momentum and get out of the saddle to Crush and the wheel in front of me pukes all over himself and sits up, I nearly rear end him, I have to sit and avoid, breaking my vibe..
I re-engage Turbo's and in front of me and its like a Trail of Dead..A zombie obstacle course...Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit..
only 2 guys, but it felt like a thousand...I managed 8th overall and stayed safe
This weekend was Amazing
Thank You Mr. Swartzendruber
Good times Indeed
