My first win of the season, sweet release. Having not been a season of much racing for me this was an excellent way to start my ramp up to the cross season. For me it was a great way to test my handling and fitness leading up to Jackson Park. Some of the my fellow racers have downplayed the importance of this event. My thoughts are they simply left their 'A' game on the porch, some of them phoned it in, some just gave up after a poor start or a bad line through a corner, there were even a few riders who never showed up for their start time. I kept my head together the entire race and was able to put in a race winning 23.98. I was the first to line up and contrary to best practice for a best result hit the line with no trial lap on the course. My start was not the best and the first corner was not terrific. I exited turn one and went straight to the big stick spinning furiously into turn two swooping around the chase lounge and into the whirlpool circle around the rocker. After the Barstool 180 I turned the amp to eleven and spun the cartilage in my knees into a consistency similar to that of cold frosting. The final chicane included the Bartop Jugular Corner. With a quick head shake to the left I was able to blaze through the corner and hold all of my speed through to the finish. There are whispers in the crowd that my performance may have included some timing "inconsistencies" if you will. Those are allegations that ring hollow and my victory was just and well earned. In later races in the day I put in a blazing fast 21.08, an almost perfect run rolling through corners with liquid rubber coming off of my tires. Seegs claims it was not an official time. But let's face it he's bitter about not being on the top step of the podium.
Earlier in the day, the 'Take a Roadie Offroad Day' was enjoyed by all, even those who got lost, and later found. The weather was great and the trails were in excellent condition. It was great to see so many new faces out on the trail. No bones broken this year, although I tried when I plunged a shoulder into a tree at about 20mph. Thanks to all for coming out and we can't wait for the Meltdown next week.
