A record 33 members of XXX Racing-AthletiCo leave tomorrow for the our winter training camp in California. This is the fourth year that coach Randy Warren has brought the team to San Luis Obispo, where this year we’ll enjoy eight days of riding along the coast and through the mountains. (Yes, mountains! Our toughest days will include more than 10,000 feet of climbing.) The area is a cyclist's delight and is home to many pro teams, such as Team High Road. Our week will include a bike-handling clinic and presentations on how to efficiently climb and safely descend. We're also joined by two mechanics from our shop sponsor, Mission Bay Multisport, who will take turns riding with us and providing support. With so many of us heading west, the crowd at Saturday’s team rides may be thinner than usual, but the rides will continue as regularly scheduled, and we expect a contingent to head north for the season-opening criteriums in Kenosha. Note, however, that starting March 22 our team ride will move to our summer schedule, meaning a 7 a.m. departure from Wicker Park and a 7:30 rendezvous in Warren Park.
